At 6,800 ft above sea level, Banasura Hills is popular among trekkers. It is also one of the highest mountain ranges in the Western Ghats

Named after Banasura, a demon king from Hindu mythology, the best way to take in the natural beauty of the entire region is via the Meenmutty-Kattukunnu-Aanchola trekking route. Permission from the forest department is required for the trek up the hill. The Banasura Sagar Dam, the largest earth dam in India, stands tall at the foot of the hill. With the hills, forests, steep rocky terrain, grasslands and possibility of wildlife sightings, the trek is much sought-after by visitors. The Meenmutty waterfalls is another popular tourist destination here with the service of local guides available at the location. The trek is advisable for people aged 11-plus.
