Cheengeri Hills

Unlike other locations in Wayanad, Cheengeri is not an area of dense forest, it is sought out by adventure and trekking enthusiasts.

The hills have a gentle slope, offering ease of climbing and a captivating view in the mornings. You can see the beautiful Karapuzha River and the surrounding areas from the hilltop. Located near Ambalavayal, Cheengeri Mala or Cheengeri Hills is on the way to Kaduvakuzhi from Sultan Bathery. Wayanad is a favourite among avid trekkers for its varied terrains and trails. One of the most beautiful trekking destinations is Cheengeri Hills.

Visitors can trek and camp on top of this hill which has an astounding view. The trekking is moderate to heavy and the terrain is somewhat steep. But the sight of low-hanging fluffy clouds as one approaches the peak makes it worth the climb. The view of the sunset from the top makes it the best place for a sight of the Chembra Peak and Banasura Hills. Cheengeri Hills is open throughout the year. Early mornings and evenings are best recommended for a fulfilling trekking experience. Ropes are also available to ease the climbing.

Another attraction is an 800-metre underground cave near Cheengeri Hills called Kaduvakuzhi. Chembra Peak, another popular trekking spot in Wayanad, is open to only 200 people every day so plan early in order to get hold of tickets. It is located 7 km away from Meppadi, Wayand, with a watch tower en route. The trek is through a dense forest with a steep trail. Small streams gurgle past with cool temperatures at the top. The trek is 3 km long with a heart-shaped lake halfway which attracts a lot of tourists.
